I am Dr. Kimberly Burnside, a Clinical Psychologist who works with children and adolescents in both French and English.
I provide psychotherapy to individuals presenting with mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, chronic pain, emotion dysregulation, self-harm, and suicidality. I see both neurotypical and neurodiverse populations in therapy. I also provide parent training to parents of children with anxiety and OCD. I use an integrative approach and am client-centered to ensure a collaborative goal-setting approach. I also believe in the importance of understanding a client fully by exploring their strengths and how these can help them achieve their goals. I use a variety of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). I also conduct psycho-educational assessments, including for specific learning disorders, ADHD, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I also explore strengths and use a collaborative goal-setting approach when conducting assessments.
I am currently registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I completed my Ph.D. in psychology at Concordia University (Research and Clinical Training). I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) with rotations in Outpatient Mental Health, Children’s Treatment Centre, Neuropsychology, Oncology, and Family Therapy. I then worked at CHEO in the chronic pain program and with individuals living with chronic illnesses.
I adore music, I am an avid reader, I enjoy time spent in nature (e.g., hiking and paddle-boarding) and I am the proud mother of a Cornish Rex cat named Alfred. I am also working on my green thumb with both indoor and outdoor plants.
