Kathy Chan provides psychological services (i.e., assessment and treatment) to children, adolescents, and families in English. Kathy specializes in anxiety and mood, behaviour management and parent training, autism spectrum disorder, issues related to self-esteem and confidence (including body image), and peer/family relationships. She is experienced in conducting comprehensive psychoeducational, developmental, and psychodiagnostic assessments. Kathy also works collaboratively with parents, schools, and other healthcare professionals and provides personalized recommendations.
Evidence-based practice is the cornerstone of Kathy’s work. Her therapeutic approach is primarily cognitive-behavioural and systemic, but also integrates other empirically-supported treatments (e.g., dialectical behavioural, emotion-focused, solution-focused, acceptance and commitment therapies) based on the strengths and needs of individual clients.
Kathy has worked across diverse clinical settings, including hospitals, schools, and community mental health centers. She completed her B.A. in Psychology at the University of British Columbia and her M.A. at the University of Regina. As part of pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Ottawa, Kathy completed her predoctoral internship in clinical psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). She will be pursuing licensure in Ontario.
